Size & Scope

Resort has never been bigger in size. More and more designers have given themselves over to the non-major seasons by presenting collections that sometimes rival their Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer counterparts. But Resort has also never been bigger in scope and with that expansion has come the beginnings of a name change.

It was due to happen eventually. The season has outgrown its founding purpose. A number of designers have taken to calling their collections pre-Spring. And others, while still using the Resort name, stepped away from its “summering” roots. Instead one saw the trends that return every year when the weather begins to warm as well as the vestiges of the previous Fall/Winter season. A few new trends appeared as well.

But still there were those who featured classic resort elements.

Trenches are the all-purpose coat and the perfect option for those in between days when neither light nor heavy outerwear seems to be the right choice. But rarely were those shown the simple, classic trench. These coats were filled with twists and turns.

When the temperature begins to rise, the little white dress often takes the place of its counterpart the little black dress. Though some might see the little black dress as the more versatile of the two, the numerous options available in white seemed to prove just the opposite.

Stripes, that favorite of the boating set and those who wish that they were part of the boating set, made their reemergence as they do every time the approach of spring is felt on the air.

A few years ago colorblocking moved from a passing trend to a constant piece of fashion life. Peplums appear to be undergoing the same change. This season they were decidedly smaller and more understated. Gone were the theatrics. They were replaced with pieces that can fit more handedly into everyday life.
